Of her two suitors, Blanche Sweet rejects a good man (Robert Harron) and marries drunken lout Charles West just before a wagon train of settlers heads west. In the desert, attacked by Indians and their water nearly gone, West redeems himself by trying to slip past the warring Indians in search of water but loses his life just as the Cavalry arrives. Based on a Bret Harte story, director D. W. Griffith’s short film displays stunning production values for its time with a cast of hundreds.
