Cedric Errol (Mary Pickford) is a curly-haired young boy living in New York City with his widowed mother when he gets the news that his English grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt (Claude Gillingwater), has made him the heir of his estate after his last surviving son died in a riding mishap. Henceforth, Cedric will be known as Lord Fauntleroy. The boy travels to England with his mother to claim his title and meet his relatives, but a fortune hunter comes on the scene and has other ideas.
